What the Indian Institute of Pharmaceutical Marketing actually is

This site sorts every provider by one question — which body stands behind the award — and IIPM is best understood the same way. One institute, two kinds of paperwork: diplomas it issues itself, and enrolment it arranges into university degree programmes. Keep those two piles separate and everything else about it becomes easy to read.

Said in one line, as this network says it everywhere: we run our own online MBA together with IICT and IIPM, so the institute profiled here is a partner of ours — test it as sceptically as you would test anyone else in the market.

01 · First, the name

Four famous initials, and the body that actually carries them

Start with the disambiguation, because it does real work. on this page, IIPM expands to the Indian Institute of Pharmaceutical Marketing — a Lucknow institution that has taught pharmaceutical and healthcare management since 1998. It is not, and has never been, the “Indian Institute of Planning and Management”, the once-ubiquitous advertiser that later collapsed; the two share an acronym and nothing further. Any page about this institute that does not open with that sentence is doing its readers a disservice, so ours opens with it.

Legally, the institute is a non-profit society registered under Act XXI of 1860 — the Victorian-era societies statute that constitutes a remarkable share of India’s older educational bodies. That form makes it autonomous: its curriculum, examinations and awards are its own to set. It also sits inside its industry rather than beside it, as a member of the Indian Pharmaceutical Association — a professional-body affiliation you will rarely find at a general-purpose business school, and an early clue to where this institute’s depth lies.

02 · The organising fact

Two instruments come out of one building

Everything confusing about institutes of this kind dissolves once you see that IIPM handles two different instruments and never pretends one is the other.

Issued under IIPM’s own name

Autonomous diplomas — including the flagship “MBA”

The institute’s own awards are diplomas, and its flagship programme — the one it calls an MBA — is a masters-level diploma. Its own catalogue says so on the label: the programme is described there as an autonomous masters diploma. That candour is worth crediting in a market that usually buries the word.

An award like this stands entirely on the institute’s name and curriculum. It is not a UGC degree, and nothing on this page will imply otherwise.

Whose name is on the awardIIPM’s, alone. That is what autonomous means.
Arranged, not awarded

Enrolment into university degree programmes

Separately, IIPM signs students up for university programmes that are government-recognised and delivered by distance or online under UGC-DEB compliance. On this route the qualification is a degree because a university confers it — the institute’s role is facilitation and support, and its seal appears nowhere on the parchment.

If a rulebook somewhere in your future demands the word degree — a government post, doctoral admission, an HR manual — this is the pile to pick from.

Whose name is on the awardThe university’s, always. The two roles never swap.
Before the word “diploma” reads as a demotion, recall what the IIMs themselves were handing out until their Act arrived in 2018: a PGDM, issued by institutes constituted as societies. The instrument tells you which legal shelf an award sits on — it has never, by itself, told you whether the teaching is any good.

03 · The published table

What each of its own awards costs, in its own figures

IIPM publishes its fee table openly, which makes comparison straightforward. Every line below is an institute award — a diploma under IIPM’s own name at the stated level — and every figure is the institute’s published fee. For context, the market bands the main site maps put all of this in the lowest fee territory, where what you are buying is the curriculum and the credential rather than cohort delivery or a brand.

Award, in IIPM’s own nameRuns forPublished fee
Diploma4-month₹5,500
Advance Diploma6-month₹7,500
Post-Graduate Diploma1-year₹11,500

MBA, dual specialisation2-year · fast track 1-year₹26,000 · ₹28,500 FT

FT = fast track. Fees as published by the institute; get the current figure in writing before any payment, as this site advises for every provider.

04 · Where the depth is

A specialisation list that reads like a map of the pharma industry

Most B-school specialisation menus are interchangeable. IIPM’s is not, and the difference is the point. The institute states it offers more than thirty specialisations, and the spine of the list traces a medicine’s whole journey — production, business management, marketing, retail, the hospital at the end of the chain — before the generalist streams appear around it:

Hospital ManagementPharma MarketingHealth Care ManagementPharma Business ManagementRetailProductionMarketingServices MarketingFinanceHRDInsuranceForeign TradeCRMAI for Business

For a reader deciding between providers, the practical question is fit: someone bound for a medical-representative team, a hospital administration office or a pharma distribution business will find course matter here that a generic MBA simply does not carry. Someone wanting a plain finance or marketing qualification has hundreds of other doors on the register, and should weigh them on price.

05 · How it teaches, and at what scale

The delivery stack, and the claims that stay claims

AI Professor

An AI tutor tuned to each subject, resident in the student portal and answering at any hour. It is the institute’s most distinctive feature, and the sensible move is to ask for a live demonstration during admission rather than accept the name at face value.

Student app

The portal travels: a student app ships on both Android and iOS, so the coursework is not chained to a desktop — a detail that matters for the field-force roles much of this curriculum points at.

Scale, as stated

The institute states 27+ years of operation and 10,000+ alumni across 20+ countries. We repeat those numbers as its statements, not as our findings — the register treats every provider’s self-description the same way.

One deliberate omission: IIPM, like most providers, publishes outcome and salary claims about its graduates. This site does not reprint any provider’s outcome marketing — ours included — because none of it is independently checkable. What is checkable sits above: the legal form, the membership, the fee table, the labels on the awards.

06 · The elder of the pair

One year older, one street of the same register

IIPM did not appear in isolation. The Indian Institute of Commerce and Trade (IICT) was established in 1997, a year earlier, in the same city and under the same 1860 statute — a sister society with a commerce-and-management remit where IIPM’s is pharmaceutical. We keep a matching profile of IICT on its own subdomain, built to the same discipline as this one.

Both institutes obey the single rule this whole site is organised around, and it bears italics: an institute’s own award is a diploma; a degree exists only where a university confers it. Hold every prospectus in this market against that sentence and the honest ones survive contact with it. IIPM’s does.

07 · Asked and answered

Five questions this profile keeps receiving

Is the IIPM “MBA” a degree?
The institute’s own catalogue settles this with unusual candour: it labels the flagship programme an autonomous masters diploma. So — a masters-level award in IIPM’s own name, two years long (one on the fast track), and not a university degree. Where a rulebook you must satisfy insists on the word degree, take the university route instead; where nothing is checking, judge the programme on its curriculum and its fee.
Is this the heavily advertised “IIPM” from years ago?
Different body altogether. The Indian Institute of Planning and Management — the one that used to blanket the newspapers, now defunct — merely shares four initials. The institute covered here is the Indian Institute of Pharmaceutical Marketing — non-profit, society-registered, seated in Lucknow and at work since 1998 — and the overlap begins and ends at the acronym.
How does a university degree fit into IIPM?
Through facilitation, never through IIPM’s own seal. Alongside its own diplomas, the institute signs students up for university programmes that are government-recognised and delivered in distance or online mode under UGC-DEB compliance — and on that route the university’s name is the one on the parchment. The teaching body and the awarding body stay distinct, and the roles never swap.
What do IIPM’s own programmes cost?
The published table runs from ₹5,500 for the four-month Diploma to ₹25,000 for the two-year flagship, rising to ₹27,500 when compressed into the one-year fast track. Dual specialisation is priced ₹26,000, or ₹28,500 on its fast track; the Executive MBA (a one-year award) at ₹20,555; the PG Diploma, also a year, at ₹11,500; the six-month Advance Diploma at ₹7,500. Every figure is the institute’s own published fee, and every line is an institute award.
What is the AI Professor?
Trained subject by subject, IIPM’s portal AI answers at every hour; the portal itself ships as a student app on Android and iOS. It is the institute’s most distinctive piece of delivery — worth asking to try during any admission conversation rather than taking the label on trust.
